How I work on a design project

My way of working as an interior designer is calm and unhurried, and every project gets that treatment. I try to feel my way into the client, then propose the one solution that matches their idea of a perfect interior and answers what they actually asked for. I am at my best when only a few projects are running at once, because that lets me go deep into each of them, so the client receives something considered and made for them alone. An interior tailored to measure.

The working set-up

At any given moment I usually have around three projects at the same stage of development, and about five projects in total at various stages. Some of them, for instance, are ones where I am running design supervision. That keeps the work from turning into a template or a production line.

I work without a permanent office. Time and experience showed me that at best I would need one once a month, if that. It is far more convenient, for me and for my clients, to meet on site, in a partner's showroom or in a café. The specialists I bring onto a project work remotely. As a result I carry no monthly cost for an office or a payroll.

All of this lets me keep a small number of live projects, hold my price at the regional average and still work to a premium standard.

Choosing an apartment before you buy

I have building crews I bring in as needed: one permanent crew that has not let me down in many years, and two more I turn to when the workload is heavy.

When the pace is calm I do all the project work myself, sketches and drawings included, and hand the visualisations to professionals.

How the work runs

I offer several types of design project, and their contents are put together for clients with different needs and different budgets.

I have delivered remote projects that clients then went on to build successfully on their own. Interiors I designed have been realised in Moscow, Sochi, Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.

About suppliers

I recommend the suppliers I have worked with for years, the ones who have never let me or my clients down, and with whom any misunderstanding was resolved quickly and painlessly. They stand behind the quality of their materials and products and they value their reputation. If you insist on buying materials somewhere of your own choosing, that is your call, but any claim about quality, delivery times, complaints, replacements or returns is then yours to handle.

The result

You are guaranteed an excellent result when you trust your designer and their taste, when you feel you are on the same wavelength, and when talking to your designer as a person is comfortable.

Professional builders play an enormous part too: people who know a range of materials and can carry out difficult work.

Design supervision is an inseparable part of a good build. It brings calm and the certainty that if something unforeseen happens, the designer will find the best way through it and will source a worthy replacement without breaking the overall picture.
